When things become popular quickly, it doesn’t come as a surprise when rumors and myths start hiding the facts behind them. Thai food is one of those things that are commonly avoided because of the myths people hear about it. Today, our team of highly skilled chefs from your local Lexington Thai Restaurant is here to clear up some of the murky water surrounding authentic Thai Cuisine to shine a light on the fact.
Thai Foods are Mostly for Vegans and Vegetarians
Many authentic Thai dishes do include the use of many vegetables, so we don’t blame people for thinking that this myth is true. However, this does not mean that you will have no options that include meat in them. In addition, it is also common to find things like fish sauce, meat broths, and more on top of proteins like pork, chicken, and beef.
Coconut Milk is in all of the Dishes
This myth is not true. Like the above myth, while it may be used in many of the dishes we create, it does not mean that it is in all. Items like Pad Thai, grilled chicken, and Papaya salad all do not contain the use of coconut milk.
All Thai Food is Spicy
Many people avoid trying new things because they are afraid of it being too hot for their taste buds. However, like many other ethnic foods, it is not spicy at all. This thought comes from when people hear that many recipes have spices in them. But this alone does not mean that the dish will be hot. It just means that it’s going to have a bunch of flavor to it! Many of the spices that are used in different dishes only add flavor to them. Much of the time, the hotness of the chilis that may be used dies off when it is being cooked, leaving behind the rest of its flavors.
